side A

I spend a majority of my work day with huge headphones covering my ears. It’s reached a point where I cannot work at all without music. As a result, I am always looking for new and exciting ways to listen to free music online (because my Ipod gets old). And the constant commercials/skip limits on the “internet radio” sites are annoying. I was really sad when Muxtape closed up shop “indefinitely” last year.
But a new site has stepped in to fill the void left by Muxtape (and yes, I’m aware that MySpace has tried to do this, but it’s far too slow/frustrating for regular use). 8tracks bills itself as a “a simple, legal way for people to share and discover music through an online mix.” As far as I can tell, it’s extremely similar to Muxtape, with only a few minor limitations. And overall, the upload/editing system is a lot more sophisticated.
I’ve already made four mixes. You can find me here. Drop me an email if/when you make a playlist of your own.

If you’re really romantic like me (meaning: you like to drink too much alcohol and then make out with as many random strangers as possible), then you will love Kissma.
Conversely, maybe you’re really into shoot ‘em games…and your girlfriend is starting to get freaked out by it. “Is it normal for him to get an erection from pretend-shooting pretend zombies?” I argue that Kissma would be good for you, too…It’s sort of like rapid-fire kissing. Hugs not guns, dude!
Drinking the little bottles of alcohol drifting across the screen leads to superpowers and bonus rounds.
Check it here (and find yourself humming the theme song for the next 4-6 hours): http://www.party-tencho.com/kissma.html.

P.S. A friend sent me the link to this game with the following warning: “This is safe for work, but you wouldn’t want anyone actually seeing you play with this thing within your professional context.”

A friend tipped me off to iRI5, a freelance artist who describes herself as specializing “in using non traditional media… old books, cassettes, playing cards, magazines, credit cards. Whatever I can find.”
These portraits assembled from deconstructed cassette tapes are just the beginning. Check out more on her website: www.iri5.com.
If you want to try to buy my love/affection, purchasing that Bob Dylan piece for me would be a good start.

Not only does this video contain all sorts of sweet stop motion animation, but the beats are SICK. From Exile’s upcoming album Radio, this track (”We’re All in Power”) was created entirely with samples from Los Angeles AM/FM stations. Evil genius, I tell you!

Lately I’ve become obsessed (meaning: I have thought about it at least three times) with the fact that I never see Hypercolor shirts at the thrift store. I’m sure lots of dummies put their sweet pink-to-blue crewnecks in the dryer (and then dared to apply an iron), thus rendering them very un-Hyper…but I see lots of waffle irons missing power cords at the Goodwill. So where are all the sad Hypercolor garments?
Apparently Generra Sportswear (the genius behind color-changing clothing)went bankrupt as soon as the trend died (peaking around 1991). It’s too bad about the unfortunate state of the economy, because I think it’s time for a Hypercolor 2.0. Anyone wanna loan me some money to get this going?
P.S. OH MY GOD!!! I just found heat-activated color-changing fabric here! Quick…who wants to make me a dress?

I’m obsessed with this song right now. Kind of romantic-ish, right? Spring is finally here, so it’s time to take off the flannel sheets and switch to those Hello Kitty…I mean, um, SATIN sheets. Yeah, that’s right, satin.

Yo, listen…I’m tired of getting gussied up for a night out on the town, only to discover that most people at the bar/party/what-have-you are sporting some nasty polyester pants and a particularly ripe case of BO. Of course, then I feel like I did something wrong by, you know, utilizing a bar of soap and some blue eyeshadow. What ever happened to LOOKING GOOD?
I think I’m going to get some enormous speakers for my sweet turquoise station wagon. And then I’m going to drive in circles around the Barbary on a Friday night, blasting this song:
I was disappointed to discover that “Good Clothes” doesn’t have a real video. Now I’m planning on making one of my own: pretty much the standard 80s teen movie “shopping montage” with me and my lady friends trying on sick (yet affordable) outfits at Forever 21. And not at the one in the Cherry Hill Mall, either. We’re going to fly out to Portland to film at the Lloyd Center F21. It’s adjacent to the ice-skating rink (where Tonya Harding trained), so you know it’s extra classy.

If I ever release a record, it will be on red, heart-shaped vinyl. Since I can’t sing, it will be a spoken word album. Kinda like that William Burroughs/Kurt Cobain release, but not so creepy.
Mostly it will just consist of me telling stories about a crew of rowdy, street-smart squirrels with hearts of gold. Tentative title? Deez Nuts. Don’t worry…I’m already practicing hilarious voices for each character.
The heart-shaped album in the video above is a little different. Think “Smokey Robinson meets J. Dilla.” Oh, man…that’s smooth! If you think you might be a new huge fan of Mayer Hawthorne , find out more information here.

Usually a good video is indicative of a mediocre track. And vice versa. But dang, both the video and the beats are pretty dope/fresh (or, pick another positive adjective, if you wish).
If you like this–which you will, I swear–check out more Kid Cudi stuff here (free mixtape download).
